RSGB Contest Results 1st 144MHz Backpackers 2023
v4.145 by G4CLA

1st Backpackers Contest

Good weather and generally favourable propagation were the reward for the 27 stations that ventured out and submitted entries.  Regrettably this was 20% lower than last year.  Nevertheless, the event was well supported with a further 298 UK&CD and 43 European callsigns appearing in the logs.

And so to the results, which show that Wales was clearly the place to be with both section winners electing to operate from the Principality.

In the popular 5B section, Steve GW1YBB/P once again showed the rest of the field a 'clean pair of heels' winning the first event of the series for the fifth time in a row.  Steven G4TCU/P and Simon GW8OVZ/P took the other podium places and the Leading Foundation station was Dave, M7ALE/P.

In the 25H Section, last year's winner Paul (G3YDY) operating as G8BGV/P had to make do with the runner up spot behind the victorious Wayne, MW0LKX/P.  Ashley, M0BAO/P was third.

Hope to see and hear you all for the 2nd outing on Sunday June 11th.

73 Graham G0NBI
